Hi all, welcome to the blog. To be honest I am just cutting and pasting emails at the moment so some of it you may have read already. I played with putting photos on this blog but I think you are best to just go to my picasa site www.picasaweb.google.com/MJMcWhirter and have a look at them.
Very quickly, as way of background, before we left Detroit I got a call from Chase who cancelled our credit cards. This sucked as it left us without money in Banda Aceh until a payment came through for Rachel, see later.
We were sad to leave family in Detroit. We had a flight to Chicago, then to Hong Kong and then for the final bit of that trip to Singapore. We had been going to fly through Washington DC and then Tokyo but the plane from Detroit to DC was small and it was deemed better for us to go through Chicago given the fact we had a very large box with my kayak in it!
The flight is pretty long. 15 hours from Chicago to Hong Kong can't really be recommended on any grounds. In Hong Kong we managed to drag ourselves into a restaurant to get some noodle soup before getting on the plane for the final push to Singapore.
We arrived in Singapore late at night and were, as usual for me, very impressed with how well organized and friendly Singapore is. We left the kayak and a suitcase full of books at the left luggage spot and then headed into our hotel.
